FAQ
Do I need curriculum for supplemental purchases?
-
Yes. See Department of Education video explaining the rule implementation here.
Can I use these templates for homeschooling?
-
Yes. Templates are AZ specific, but cover common core. They can be used in other states as well.
-
The ESA program requires account holders to spend a portion of the funds on: grammar, reading, math, social studies and science.
-

Do I have to submit one template for each individual purchase?
-
No. You can submit one template with multiple related purchases.
-
For example: The math curriculum template can be submitted for math books, Legos (fractions), pencils (necessary writing implements), manipulatives for counting, tutoring, and number charts. Anything related to math can be submitted on one template.
-

What if I have multiple related purchases from different sellers/stores. Do I have to submit individual curriculum templates for each store?
-
No. You can make one submission with all of your related purchases on one curriculum template with all of your receipts.
-
For example: You purchased math books @ Kumon, pencils @ Walmart, erasers and paper @ Amazon, dry erase board @ Lakeshore Learning, and Legos at The Lego Store. Put all purchases at the bottom of the form under "Materials Needed."
-
Explain the purchases: "Jason will use the math book, pencils, erasers, paper, dry erase board, and Legos to enhance his math curriculum."
-
Make one reimbursement submission with curriculum template and all purchase receipts.
-
-
Can I reuse the template?
-
Yes. The templates are yours to keep. There is a 30-day window to download & save to your computer.
PE is not a required subject. Why should I purchase PE curriculum?
-
This template can be used for any physical activity that your child is participating in such as a climbing facility like Makutu's Island, Alta Climbing and Fitness, trampoline parks, and fitness related classes (gymnastics, basketball, karate), etc. It may also be used for fitness equipment (weights, tennis racket, bat/ball, baseball glove, football, etc.).

How detailed do I need to be when describing "Materials Needed"?
-
Items purchased should be documented exactly as they appear on the receipt so reimbursements are not delayed or denied. This includes book titles; list each book title. Be as specific as possible to help the ESA staff determine the validity of the purchase.

Do I have to explain every item I purchased?
-
Yes, it is now required.
-
When explaining your purchase, it may be helpful to use language from the Rule itself.
-
The Rule:
-
Supplemental materials according to the rule, "means relevant materials directly related to the course of study for which they are being used that introduce content and instructional strategies or that enhance, complement, enrich, extend or support the curriculum."

For example:

-
Lego purchase (Legos can be used to learn fractions.): "Legos will be used to enhance the math curriculum on fractions. "
-
